Graduation and beyond

Ahh, the light and freedom of graduation draws nigh. See, now that I'm about to graduate and enter the "real world" I think I know enough to use words like nigh. How little do I know. At this stage the world looks upon you as though you're a bundle of kinetic energy just waiting to be released to make your mark on the world. While today's graduates are hoping their impact is carbon neutral, I am much more worried about my familial obligations and having more time to spend changing diapers. Oh wait, I'm still pressing on to a Ph.D. Maybe by the time she goes to the prom I'll be done with school. Maybe.

Standard(s): Design: 1.1.c (Identify learning theories from which each model is derived and the consequent implications.) 1.1.1.a (Write appropriate objectives for specific content and outcome levels.) 1.1.1.b (Analyze instructional tasks, content, and context.) 1.2.a (Apply principles of educational psychology, communications theory, and visual literacy to the selection of media for macro- and micro-level design of instruction.) 1.2.b (Apply principles of educational psychology, communications theory, and visual literacy to the development of instructional messages specific to the learning task.) Development: 2.0.1 (Select, use and apply appropriate media using design principles to produce effective learning environments, instructional and professional products.) 2.0.5 (Apply appropriate evaluation strategies and techniques for assessing effectiveness of instructional and professional products.) 2.0.6 (Use the results of evaluation methods and techniques to revise and update instructional and professional products.) 2.1.4 (Produce instructional and professional products using various aspects of integrated application programs.) 2.2.1 (Apply principles of visual and media literacy for the development and production of instructional and professional materials and products. Design and produce computer-based technologies that include or use Audio/video, digital, imaging devices, authoring tools, telecommunication tools)
Why: This was another large scale project. It began with a strong presentation on the theoretical basis for the presentation, had clear objectives, analyzed the tasks, and applied the principles of educational psychology mentioned earlier. It also used appropriate media to produce an effective product, used the results from feedback (given throughout development), uses integrated application programs, and applies principles of visual and media literacy in the presentation design.
Annotation: The goal of this project was to produce instructional materials to use with a live audience. By live audience, I mean that the instruction was not created for a vacuum or a purely hypothetical audience, it was created for use with real people. This project required a lot of time and effort, because it takes into account every stage of the design process. I began with a detailed list of objectives:

I took that list of objectives and turned it into a flowchart:

I then created mockups so I could see how the design would play out.
